India women aim to complete hat-trick of Asia Cup titles

DUBAI, Dec.12 (ICC Press Release): India's women will be aiming to complete a hat-trick of Asia Cup titles when they face Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the triangular tournament to be played in Jaipur, India, from 13 to 21 December.
India won the inaugural tournament in Sri Lanka in 2004 and successfully defended the title the following year in Pakistan. Now India launches its title defence against traditional rivals Pakistan.
This year's tournament will take place at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
It will be a special and historic time for the Pakistan team as it makes its first international appearance overseas since the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took control of women's cricket in the country.
Zimbabwe women qualify for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifying Tournament (WCWCQT) from African Region
Submitted by rick on December 12, 2006 - 9:45amDUBAI, Dec.11 (ICC Press Release): Zimbabwe's women on Sunday made history in Nairobi, Kenya, where they won the Women's World Cup Qualifiers – Africa region, to reach next year's ICC Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifying Tournament (WCWCQT) in Pakistan.
Zimbabwe, making its international debut, remained undefeated in the four-team competition played between 8 and 10 December. Besides Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Uganda and hosts Kenya also took part in the round-robin event.
Zimbabwe defeated Uganda by 63 runs, beat Kenya by 104 runs and then beat Tanzania by 82 runs in the last game to top the table. Tanzania finished second with two wins, Uganda had one win and home side was winless.
ICC announces ESPN STAR Sports as its GLOBAL MEDIA AND PRODUCTION PARTNER for the next eight years
Submitted by rick on December 10, 2006 - 8:04amDUBAI, Dec.10 (ICC Media Release): The International Cricket Council's (ICC) Board today announced ESPN STAR Sports as its global media and production partner for its audio-visual rights for ICC Events from late 2007 to 2015.
The decision was a unanimous one, taken by the ICC Board in Dubai on Saturday, and the ICC will now seek to reach final agreement with ESPN STAR Sports.
While the final figure on the agreement will not be disclosed, it is significantly in excess of the ICC's previous commercial deal.
That deal, with the Global Cricket Corporation (GCC), included sponsorship rights as well as the audio-visual component and was worth US$550 million for the years 2000 to 2007.

Four-day regional qualifying tournament starts in Kenya from 8 December
DUBAI - Nov.23 (ICC Press Release): The countdown to 2009 ICC Women’s World Cup begins next month when four African countries assemble in Kenya for the Women’s World Cup Regional Qualifying Cricket Tournament between 8 and 11 December.
Besides the host nation, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Uganda will contest the one-day competition which will be played in a simple round-robin format.
It will be a special and historic time for the Zimbabwe team as it makes its international debut.
